Nitriansky Komarno district

The Nitriansky Komarno district is located in the western part of Slovakia and is part of the Nitra Region. It covers an area of ​​738.5 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 84,000 inhabitants. This administrative district was established in 1996 after being separated from the Nitra region.

The district is home to several important historical and cultural monuments. The most well-known of these include the ruins of the castle at Komárno, the historic town of Šurany, and the infamous concentration camp at Sereď. 1. Zemianska Synagoga: Located in the village of Kamenica nad Hronom, this synagogue is a listed monument of Slovak cultural heritage. Built in 1738, it is one of the oldest surviving synagogues in Slovakia.

2. Traseen Castle: This 14th century castle was built by the influential noble family of Traseen. The castle is located on a hill overlooking the town of Namestovo and was used as a Slovak and Hungarian nobleman’s residence.

The Slovak-Hungarian Monument is a historic memorial commemorating the peace between the two nations that was sealed in the Treaty of Trianon. Located on the border between Slovakia and Hungary, the monument features two figures– a Slovak soldier and a Hungarian soldier–holding a shield bearing the seals of both countries.
